The Regular.impact
The Regular is all about making it easier to find, create, and sponsor 3rd spaces and real community. And we believe you can’t have community without charity, philanthropy, and impact. The Regular.impact is how we hope to infuse those values of doing good into karaoke nights, bingo nights, trivia nights, and more.
Going Out for Good
Charity: Girls on the Run
Sponsoring Team: Mic Drops
As girls reach adolescence, many encounter social structures that don't accept them for who they are. In the world GOTR NOVA envisions, every girl is free to boldly pursue her dreams wholly as herself — in body, brain, heart, and spirit.
Charity: Rainbow Families
Sponsoring Team: One Trick Ponies
In the 1980s, two gay dads began an AOL listserv to enable families to connect while a group of lesbian moms met to share parenting resources. In time, they merged, and today Rainbow Families has over 1,000 members (6,000 connected via email) and is the region’s only nonprofit dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ families with trusted resources and compassionate services.
Charity: Tahirih Justice Center
Sponsoring Team: Proof of Concept
Tahirih addresses an urgent need: serving survivors of gender-based violence, primarily immigrant women and girls, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. It provides holistic legal services, social service case management, advocacy, and education.
Charity: Collective Action for Safe Spaces (CASS)
Sponsoring Team: Golden Grillz
On the understanding that the legal system is unsafe for people of color, CASS empowers communities to build alternatives while also addressing the root causes of violence.
Charity: After School All-Stars
Sponsoring Team: Triple Threat
The vision: that children from historically marginalized communities will be prepared to compete in a global economy, grow as leaders, and have a brighter future.
Charity: City Dogs & City Kitty Rescue
Sponsoring Team: Three Strokes
Since 2011, City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue has provided a lifeline to more than 5,100 dogs and 5,000 cats — animals that were just days or hours away from being euthanized for no reason other than lack of space.
Project Create
Sponsoring Team: Team 10s and Ken’s
Project Create offers out-of-school-time arts programs for some of the most vulnerable children in the District – those who have experienced hunger, witnessed violence, and lived on the streets – children who didn't choose their lives.
Charity: Armed Services Arts Partnership
Sponsoring Team: Choral Fixation
Traumatic experiences in military service, social and emotional difficulties in transitioning to civilian life, constant moves, deployments: all these contribute to a lost sense of purpose and to social isolation – even more profound when social distancing is the norm.
