The Regular is a black owned social impact technology startup based in Washington, DC. We help people find communities they can join and connect those community's gatherings to empty times at local bars, restaurants, and other venues. As those repeat visitors come into businesses we help them engage to turn a higher percentage of them into the most important customer for any business - The Regular. Our leadership team and advisors have held senior product, operations, and community building roles within Salesforce, AWS, Greenpeace USA, Niagara Water, and elsewhere while our Founder Brandolon Barnett is an author and speaker on social impact issues. As such we’re also a social enterprise dedicated to positive impact. All of our Host partners must sponsor a local charity in their community to receive 3% of all membership subscriptions. Finally, while our app is new we already have hundreds of monthly users and our brand benefits from the multiple acquisitions of communities with thousands of engaged existing fans and an existing revenue stream from operations in DC, LA, Baltimore, San Francisco, & Chicago.

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and driven part-time Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Specialist to join our startup team. The M&A Specialist will play a pivotal role in our expansion strategy by identifying, initiating, and working with our leadership to negotiate acquisitions or stakes in small event providers within the five cities where we already have a presence. This role requires exceptional negotiation skills, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of the startup ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct market research to identify potential acquisition targets within the event planning/service and hospitality entertainment industry (providers of trivia nights, bingo nights, karaoke nights, or general event planners).

  • Help the company meet a target of minimum one acquisition per quarter beginning Q2 2024

  • Initiate and manage outreach efforts to potential acquisition targets, establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Lead negotiations with target companies, working closely with legal and financial teams to structure deals that align with our strategic objectives.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess the financial and operational impact of potential acquisitions.

  • Develop and execute integration plans for successfully acquired companies, ensuring a smooth transition and maximizing synergies.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes that may impact acquisition strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.

  • Proven experience in mergers and acquisitions, preferably within the startup or technology sector.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess financial statements and conduct valuation analysis.

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with a track record of successfully closing deals.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to identify growth opportunities and drive initiatives to completion.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and adapt to evolving priorities.

  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to mergers and acquisitions.

Compensation

  • This is a high level part time position with clear deliverables and the ability to grow over time

  • $90 per hour
